Senior Robotics Engineer AI - at InMind
Want to Teach Robots to Learn?
Imagine a robot that quickly takes on a variety of tasks, self-improves and requires no programming!
InMind is a Norwegian tech company focused on making robots learn. We strongly believe in a better use of the human workforce, working alongside, and in cooperation with flexible, adaptive robots.
From our headquarters in Trondheim our strong technical team has already made significant strides with our prototype robot demonstrating the ability to solve complex tasks through observation, adaption and self-improvement.
What makes us unique? Unlike most robotics companies, we’re not just integrating components – we’re building a learning robot from scratch, combining hardware, software and AI in a tightly integrated signal chain. Our core innovation is a real-time adaptive robot brain designed to work in dynamic, physical environments.
We draw on the expertise of our founder Torgeir Trøite, a seasoned electrical engineer and successful serial entrepreneur.
“With InMind I have bold ambitions, advancing real-world adaptive robot intelligence that allows robots to learn from their environment and adapt to new tasks autonomously.”
– Torgeir Trøite, Founder/CEO/Head of Development
Join our R&D team
You will join a highly competent and tight-knit R&D team with deep expertise in FPGA, signal processing, embedded systems, electronics, and AI. Your role will be to design and implement the AI systems that power our adaptive robot brain. You’ll work closely with hardware and embedded engineers to ensure that learning models work in real-time, on resource-constrained hardware, and in a dynamic, physical environment. You’ll also be part of defining our AI architecture, training and testing models, and shaping how robots learns from interaction with the world.
You will be joining at a crucial stage, where your work will directly impact the first product version planned for release in late 2025. Together with the rest of the team you will be an important part in all phases of our product development - from defining and refining our product specifications, implementing and testing them.
Qualifications & Experience
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Robotics Engineer that shall focus on Artificial Intelligence. The ideal candidate will have a blend of expertise in both robotics and AI, and professional experience from working with advanced technologies and methodologies, delivering products.
You will be an important part in all phases of our product development - from defining and refining our AI architecture, via implementing and training our robots, to evaluating their performance.
While there are many pathways to this role, we believe align with the following profile:- An ability to tackle unsolved, challenging problems by drawing on previous experience and staying abreast of the latest advances in the field.
- Experience with GPU programming and CUDA for accelerating machine learning computations and robotic simulations.
- Expertise in computer vision techniques, large language models (LLM), generative models and reinforcement learning.
- Willingness to learn and apply new technologies as needed.
Holding a MSc or PhD in a relevant field such electronics, computer science, engineering, cybernetics, signal processing, mathematics, physics, or a similar filed will be a strong advantage in this role. We do know that hands-on experience and practical knowledge are essential, so relevant experience can compensate for the academic requirement.
Preferably you also have
- A comprehensive understanding of robotics principles, including kinematics, dynamics, control systems, and knowledge of various sensors used in robotics for navigation, perception, and interaction.
- Previous experience in designing and implementing deep neural networks, applying machine learning techniques, and working with frameworks like PyTorch.
- Strong understanding of backpropagation, transformers, diffusion models, regularization techniques, and hyperparameter tuning.
- Expertise in Python programming, version control with Git, and CI/CD practices for efficient and collaborative development.
- Experience developing with FPGAs.
- A strong foundation in probability and statistics for developing robust AI algorithms.
Who are You as a Person?
The challenge we are taking will truly be a team effort and the most important personal trait is your enthusiasm and dedication to take part in a strong technical team with an open and collaborative culture.
Our hypothesis is that you thrive in cross-functional teams and are comfortable working with uncertainty. You take initiative, share knowledge, and adapt as we learn and iterate. You understand the value of building robust solutions, but also know when "good enough" is what’s needed to move forward. You like working in a lab, testing things physically – not just writing code. You are curious and unafraid to dive into emerging AI techniques and untested ideas – and you thrive in the space where theory meets real-world complexity.
Why should you join InMind?
We offer a unique opportunity to contribute to development of new and groundbreaking technology. Joining us at an early stage, you will have the chance to shape the future of one of Norway’s most innovative companies.
We are located centrally in Trondheim in inspiring offices with a partly sponsored cafeteria, free parking, rain-free bicycle storage and an exercise room with showers. You’ll have a competitive salary, flexible working hours, a sound pension plan and standard benefits – and the chance to develop groundbreaking technology. You are curious and unafraid to dive into emerging AI techniques and untested ideas – and you thrive in the space where theory meets real-world complexity.
Sometimes in life, you just have to take a chance – perhaps this is yours?
Please send us your application today! We review and interview candidates on an ongoing basis, even before the formal application deadline. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our recruitment partners Trude Støren (928 92 461) or Haavard Klemetsen (467 49 848) if you have any questions.
